* February 2015 - Private Enforcement: Evelyne Ameye Legal Services, in collaboration with Miguel Sousa Ferro of Eduardo Paz Ferreira & Associados, files a claim for antitrust damages in representation of the Canadian telecommunications and media group COGECO in the amount of € 11 million with the Portuguese civil courts against Sport TV, Controlinveste and NOS (ZON Optimus), following-on from the “Sport TV” Decision of the Portuguese Competition Authority (which became final on 11 March 2015). The case was followed by a collective damages claim against Sport TV in representation of over 3 million Portuguese pay-TV clients, making use of the permissive Portuguese law, which provides for “opt-out” representation (unless the consumer opts-out, he is included in the class action). This is a ground-breaking claim, making use, for the first time, of the possibility of class actions in private antitrust enforcement in Portugal. The Portuguese Competition Observatory is being represented by Miguel Sousa Ferro.
